Oh goody Thanksgiving Again!!

Oh yaaaay! Thanksgiving again! I am not a fan of "Thanksgiving". Why you may ask? Well the meaning of the holiday is not all it's cracked up to be! To me, and many native americans, Thanksgiving recalls all of the European settlers, the brain washing/stealing etc of the Native people. You may recall from school the "In 1492 Columbus sailed the Ocean blue." Well now I beg to differ, "In 1492 Columbus told the Natives fuck you. And by the way "Thanks-for-giving" us your land!!! This is the crazy society we live in, we celebrate this holiday that has been so distorted. "Thanksgiving" was the celebration after a mass murder event. This is like giving Jeffery Dalmer a frickin holiday! To me that is SICK and TWISTED!!!!!! Now don't get me wrong I do attend family events on this "holiday" however my beliefs are such that I only do it to please my family. I am Thankful for everything I have, do, believe and enjoy however, these are things one should not take for granted on a daily basis. One day per year to appreciate the things we are able to do, have and enjoy is hardly enough. Think about it!! Don't take life for granted!!

This holiday that has been so distorted? Sounds like someone flunked history. Columbus has nothing to do with Thanksgiving. This was the pilgrims coming accross on the Mayflower over a hundred years later!

I wonder how one can confuse a celebration with the Natives that helped the Pilgrims get through the early years and a successful harvest with a mass murder. They were friends! Hell, there were more Indians than Pilgrims at the first Thanksgiving. The settlers were dieing form starvation and greatly appreciated the help they received.

Maybe you should stop being a phone and tell your family what you think. Then get an education about what the first Thanksgiving was all about.

Plus, you are not allowed to watch any football on Thursday!

You are correct, let's see an American Indian point of view:
http://www.thepeoplespaths.net/News2002/0211/KDenning021105viewthanksgiving.htm

I quote from him "Some people may view "thanksgiving" as a white people holiday.. but its not. It is saddened that the holiday has been twisted with the Indian/Pilgrim story... and it is even sadder that people use this holiday as a protest to Columbus coming here.. lets face it, Columbus was not at the "first" thanksgiving dinner... And lets use this holiday for political protests... gee how wonderful for the true meaning of thanksgiving.. :"

He is right. It is not a "white" people holiday. Many people from different parts of the world celebrate a holiday of Thanksgiving in different ways. The settlers did so before landing at Plymouth Rock.

Another point to consider before you all blow up here, Thanksgiving is just a continuation of the harvest festivals from the pilgrim's heritage in England. We just gave it an American twist after the revolutionary war. And it was in the late 1800's, when we made it an national holiday instead of a local celebration. We supersized it. Go figure.
